Agro-forestry in Pangyang of Ningxia

Organized by World Vision 1998 -2003

AEON Fund provided a 5-year sponsorship to this project to help reduce the soil erosion problem and increase the living standard of about 3000 villagers. With the cooperation of Pangyang Government and World Vision, this project has brought to the Pangyang community the success of land reform model, road and water cellar construction, the agro-forestry skills and the environmental protection education for the villagers and their kids.


The Project gained the direct participation and leadership supervision from staff of Pangyang Government & World Vision Representatives of AEON Fund paid a visit in May 2000 to examine the construction of water cellars in holding rainwater
The local government applies a land reform model of “88542” system to hold rainwater and keep fruit trees grow on the mountain slopes Trees are further covered with plastic membrane to hold the rainwater
With the help of the organizer, a Community Development Committee was formed to mobilize members to participate in environmental protection programs and leadership training AEON Fund organized a second tour in 2002. Villagers welcomed us to their cave dwelling
During our visit to a local school we sponsored, students presented their handicrafts to show their appreciation
